Freedom camping vehicle rules

MBIE has sponsored free access to the self-contained vehicle Standard so local councils as well as motorhome, campervan and caravan owners and people who do fit-outs of self-contained vehicles know what’s required for a vehicle to be certified as a self-contained vehicle.
The Standard is available to download for free, saving users around $70.

MBIE is also commissioning research to understand the number, profile and value of New Zealanders and international visitors who freedom-camp this summer.
